German perspectives on and in 20th-century American culture. Influence of German thought and writings on American culture; German views of American culture. Taught in English. GEC course.
This second-level writing course will examine the influence of the German fairy tale tradition on contemporary American literature and film. We will analyze fairy-tale literature and film in both the German and American contexts in order to examine the structural characteristics of fairy tales and fairy-tale films, the role of violence in fairy tales, as well as the depictions of gender. This course will strengthen your analytical writing skills and give you the opportunity to look at the revision process in depth.
