Yiddish 367 - Jewish-American Voices in U.S. Literature

GEC course — 5 Credit Hours

Professor Miller

The call number can be found on the University Registrar's Web site.

Students discuss, analyze, and write about issues presented through the diverse voices of Jewish-American literature.
The course aims:
  • to enable students to develop and experience writing and oral expression as integral parts of the process of thinking and learning, and
  • to introduce students to the literature of the Jewish-American community in the United States.
Material will be discussed from the perspective of key social issues: class, gender, diaspora, identity, discrimination, ethnicity, assimilation, and marginality. An overall objective of the course will be to encourage students to reflect on the social diversity of experience, to think beyond the language and codes of their own immediate culture, and to appreciate other points of world-view.

Yiddish 367 satisfies the GEC second writing course requirement.
The course is taught entirely in English.
