German House Memories from the 70's

Max Kade German House Opening

In the most recent issue of the Ohio State Alumni Magazine (November-December) Fred Schuster, a graduate from 1974 recalls his positive experience at the German House http://www.osu.edu/alumni/news/ohio-state-alumni-magazine/issues/november-december-2014/in-your-words.html.

“I moved into the first language-based facility and co-ed living arrangement at OSU,” Schuster writes. “The house was located on 15th Avenue . . . and was sponsored by the OSU German Department.”

Schuster and the other residents agreed to speak only German within the house, and the results were impressive: “The experience and fellowship was incredible. The growth in my German and personality was one of the greatest things I remember from my years at OSU.”

We continue today to provide the same opportunities enjoyed by Mr. Schuster in our Max Kade German House, purchased with a generous gift from the Max Kade Foundation in 1996. Located at 141 West 11th Avenue, the facility houses students interested in improving their spoken German. It also functions on occasion as a location for departmental events.
