Following the translation of his recent biography of Hannah Arendt, Thomas Meyer discusses the life and work of one the twentieth century’s most influential thinkers. Appearing with Meyer will be Dr. Shelley Frisch, the English-language translator of Hannah Arendt: A Life of the Mind.
Thomas Meyer received his doctorate (2003) and habilitation (2009) from LMU Munich, where he has been a professor of philosophy since 2020. His biography of Hannah Arendt (2023) is currently being translated into twenty languages. From 2020 to 2025, he edited a twelve-volume study edition of Arendt's German writings. Meyer lives in Berlin as a freelance author.
Shelley Frisch’s translations from German, which include biographies of Friedrich Nietzsche, Albert Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci, Marlene Dietrich/Leni Riefenstahl (dual biography), Hannah Arendt, and Franz Kafka along with many other works of fiction and nonfiction, have been awarded numerous translation prizes. She has chaired the Helen and Kurt Wolff Translator’s Prize jury since 2015. She lives in Princeton, where she received a Ph.D. in German in 1981.
