Join Yiddish song ensemble Levyosn for a lunch-time concert featuring songs from their forthcoming second album, Levyosn's Dream. This album showcases the band's personal favorite Yiddish nature songs, songs about sewing, and original klezmer dance tunes. Cultural context and translations will be provided, along with a Q&A session at the concert’s conclusion, facilitated by OSU’s professor of Yiddish Prof. Saul Zaritt.
Band bio: Founded in 2021, Levyosn is a new ensemble specializing in Yiddish song and klezmer. The band takes its name from the Ashkenazi Hebrew word for the leviathan, a mythical sea creature traveling the world’s oceans collecting songs, krill, and dreams. They released our debut album, Levyosn’s Lullaby, through Borscht Beat in 2023. Their repertoire includes both traditional music and original songs in Yiddish, Hebrew, Ladino and English and draws from adjacent Eastern European folk traditions. Intricate arrangements and rich vocal harmonies make their sound unique. The group has a deep knowledge and connection to Yiddish culture and Jewish tradition and loves to get audiences singing and dancing along with the music.
