Meryem Deniz’s research focuses on German Romanticism and contemporary transnational literature at the intersection of material and environmental thinking. Her current book project, The Fluid Effect: Materiality, Agency, and Environment in German Romanticism, explores how literary and scientific experiments with fluidity around 1800 shaped theories of matter, mind, and poetry and foregrounded the idea of reciprocity in human-nonhuman relationships. She previously published on Lessing, Jean Paul, Novalis, and the contemporary reception of Sophocles’ Antigone; her “review article” on the recent Romantic scholarship will appear in Monatshefte (2025).
