Davidson to Give Inaugural Lecture

John Davidson

Professor John Davidson, promoted to Full Professor last year, will be delivering his inaugural lecture on January 18 in the Faculty Club Grand Lounge at 5:00 PM. He will be speaking on “Ecological Visions in Post-WWII Germany.” This lecture will deal with late modernist works, in particular moving and still film images, that endeavor to reorient their audience to the environment, and that respond to the complex connections between technology and progress.

Professor Davidson is an internationally recognized scholar whose work has focused on film and visual culture in the mid twentieth century. He received his doctorate from Cornell University in 1993, when he began teaching at Ohio State. He is the author of Deterritorializing the New German Cinema (1999), and he has recently completed a major project on Ottomar Domnick. He has published widely in journals devoted to German Studies and film. Since 2009 he has been the executive editor of the Journal of Short Film.

Davidson is the founding director of the Film Studies Program at Ohio State. He currently serves as the Director of Graduate Studies in German. Next year he will begin a term as the Faculty Athletic Representative for the campus.
