On October 19, 2026, the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures welcomed a cohort of 30 German teachers to Hagerty Hall as part of Fulbright Germany’s Innovation in the Classroom program, an international professional development initiative (Fulbright/EHE Ohio State University) that combines online learning with experiential engagement in the United States. 

During their visit, participants met with faculty and engaged in discussions about language, culture, and education. A highlight of the program was a presentation by Sandhya Shanker (Center for Languages, Literatures, and Cultures) on Ohio State’s innovative approach to teaching world languages, intercultural competence, and global skills. The visit provided valuable opportunities for cross-cultural exchange and professional dialogue, while also showcasing Ohio State’s commitment to international education, language education and global collaboration. 

The department was delighted to host the group and to contribute to this ongoing partnership with Fulbright Germany.
