Sonia Gollance, Visiting Assistant Professor and Director of Yiddish and Ashkenazic Studies, is one of three recipients of this year's Cashmere Subvention Award in Jewish Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies from the Association for Jewish Studies. This award supports the publication of her forthcoming book, It Could Lead to Dancing: Mixed-Sex Dancing and Jewish Modernity. In this book, Gollance examines how transgressive dance scenes have been used to address the challenges and opportunities Jews experienced in the modern era, especially as reflected in German and Yiddish literature.
