Roehm Defends Her Dissertation
Hearty congratulations to Ann-Sophie, our 2022-23 Max Kade Dissertation Fellow, for successfully defending on June 9th!
Ann-Sophie Roehm's dissertation, On the “right” path? – Analyzing recent breaking news coverage of right-extremist attacks in German media focuses on the comprehensive analysis of how the largest and most-read German newspapers cover right-extremist attacks through the examination of breaking news stories about these incidents.
In her dissertation, Ann-Sophie identifies and analyzes the terms, images, and metaphors used by reporters in the initial reporting of such attacks. Through critical discourse analysis, she categorizes these elements and predicts the emergence of various trends. Furthermore, she investigates how different media outlets employ different terms and examines the implications associated with these choices. By exploring the prevalence and evolution of specific terms and metaphors across different cases, her findings shed light on the media coverage of right-extremist attacks in German, and their adherence to the press codex.
