Cynthia D. Porter

Cynthia D. Porter (she/her) is an Assistant Professor of German at The Ohio State University. Her research explores body modification politics in German media, intersections of Black Diaspora and German Studies, and representations of anxiety in popular American film. In connection with, but also beyond, the structures of academia, she is fascinated by the tensions between perceptions of Mother Nature and Human Nature. She is drawn to discussions of the organic, complex systems that shape life on our planet—especially slime mold, plant communication networks, and the symbiotic cycles of decay and regeneration.
