Marcus Breyer has successfully defended his dissertation, Meerstimmigkeiten: Metapher und Modernekritik bei Eduard von Keyserling.
Marcus began his graduate studies at Ohio State in 2011, earning the M.A. in 2013. He has been an active member of the GGSA (Germanic Graduate Student Association) and has served as a Graduate Representative to the Departmental Council for the past two years. This year, he benefitted from the Max Kade Dissertation Fellowship and expressed his gratitude for the honor.
His research interests include Imagery and Cultural History of the Sea, Narrating the Sea around the Turn of the Century (e.g. in Th, Mann, Storm, Keyserling), Ecocriticism, Environmental Humanities, Ecological Aesthetics (esp. G. Böhme), and Discourses on Modernity, Subjectivity, and Rationality (Nietzsche, Heidegger, Frankfurt School, M. Frank). Breyer has written "Sensualizing the ‘Over-There’: The Dissolving of Exteriority and Interiority in ‘Geo-thoughts’ and ‘Geo-song.’” The Imagery of Interior Spaces. Eds.
