Paul Reitter, professor, Germanic Languages and Literatures and director of the Humanities Institute, is co-editor of The Rise of the Research University: A Sourcebook (University of Chicago Press, 2017).

Reitter, along with Chad Wellmon and Louis Menand, brings a wealth of texts together, assembling a collection of primary sources — many translated into English for the first time — that provide insights not only into the historical development of higher learning but its role in modern society.
