Wrobel wins fellowship at Innsbruck Uni
We congratulate Gina Wrobel on winning a prestigious research residency fellowship at Innsbruck University!
During her month-long fellowship in Tyrol, Wrobel will analyze part of the data she collected in Germany for her dissertation research project ‘Beyond (and in) the Classroom: Exploring Refugees’ Language and Literacy Practices in Germany’. Wrobel's focus will be on interviews, observations, collected notes, comments, and documents of one participant to answer questions about how, where, when, and why trans-/multilingual literacy practices take place and how they are interrelated and connected with the particular contexts and linguistic environments and what role(s) and functions various literacy and trans-/multilingual events and practices have in an adult refugee everyday life.
Wrobel tells us that "for my project, it is important to analyze data from different perspectives to allow multifaceted interpretations and to acknowledge the complexity of refugees’ literacy and trans-/multilingualism." The research area ‘Cultural Encounters – Cultural Conflicts’ at Innsbruck University provides an ideal opportunity for her to engage in interdisciplinary discussions about multilingualism during the fellowship month. To contribute to these discussions and as part of the ‘Multilingualism Colloquium’, she intends to focus her first analyses of selected data on ‘superdiversity’, ‘language in mobility’, and multi- vs. translingual approaches.
Congratulations, Gina!
