Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

In 1985, Patsy Lightbown published her widely read “Great expectations: Second language acquisition research and classroom teaching” inApplied Linguistics. In this article, she summarized SLA research by stating 10 generalizations which were consistent with the research to that date. She concluded that while this research could not serve as the basis for telling instructors what to teach or how, SLA research was one important source of information which would help teachers set appropriate expectations for themselves and for their students. In this talk, Dr. Lightbown revisits and reassesses these ten generalizations first made in 1985 for L2 scholars and L2 instructors in 2012.
